I LIVE. I originally intended to do a Gintama art rec post, but my Opera is currently riddled with random DDS fansites from a quick surfing session last night. So I'm starting with a few of those first. And as DDS fans tend to be general Megaten fans, Nocturne and Persona sites also abound.
* Bringing down maximum amount of site recs per post to 10 instead of 15. * The Nocturne hero will be referred to as Shura (or Shu).
Includes: Digital Devil Saga (10x) | Nocturne (x7) | Persona (x2) | Devil May Cry (x2) FLCL | Kowloon | Final Fantasy X | Dynasty Warriors 5, etc.

Originaly posted on my journal. Moving art spammage here. ^^; Taking a break from Japanese art sites to peruse DeviantART
Proof that I stalk way too many people in devart. I had a 250+ devwatch backlog (but only because I'm as lousy with following my devwatch as I am my flist).

Untitled by villainny [ Good Omens | Aziraphale, Crowley | PG-13 ]
"If it wasn't you, Crowley, it means it was them. They came up with it on their own. And that's worse."
A short, random snippet, but with a lot of meaning behind it. I liked it. Beautiful line right there. I think that signs up humanity for you. |

| [fic] Screening Bright Lights | Sanada/Oishi |
[Apr. 3rd, 2004|01:09 am] |
Screening Bright Lights by Aine [ Prince of Tennis | Sanada/Oishi | m/m | PG ]
Haha! I bet you guys thought I stopped reading PoT fics altogether.
When it arrives and comes to a complete stop, he silently gets to his feet, and neither one of them pays much heed to the other as he leaves. The doors close loudly behind him and provide a material separation to the spaces between them.
My kingdom for more crack pairing fics like this. *_* If I had a kingdom to give, because I honestly wibbled at this fic.
I remember when the Rikkai vs Seigaku match started, musings on Sanada/Oishi was brought up jokingly. Mostly because yaoi fangirls are strange and scary that way, but I didn't think anyone would actually go and write a fic on it. Let alone write a good fic on it, but that's exactly what Aine has done.
What to love about it? Sanada and Oishi is a hard pairing to work on. Trying to reason out why these two individuals could possibly be attracted to each other is next to impossible. (Although to be honest, nothing is impossible with yaoi, really. It's the biggest difference between yaoi and slash, yo. :P) So instead the writer doesn't bother with the why, so much as she does with the how.
The setting and the mood of the fic draws you in. You're no longer really caring that it's almost impossible for these two to be together, but just enjoy the moment. I was completely rooting for this pair the entire time I was reading the fic and I wibbled happily at jealous!Sanada. Yey! ^___^ |

| [fic] Twofish | Crowley/Aziraphale |
[Apr. 2nd, 2004|09:27 pm] |
Twofish by Grindylowe [ Good Omens | Crowley/Aziraphale | m/m | PG-13 ]
"Well, they start out as your fish. I mean, they always intend to be your fish, you know, they look at me from the tanks in the store and say Oi, look at us, we belong to Aziraphale! Take us to him! But they always end up dead before you get here, so they never have a chance to be your fish. You know, cycle of life, and all that."
..... o.o I have no words to do this fic justice. I would recommend this to anyone, even if you've never read a Good Omens fic in your life, or even if you haven't read the book.
The fic starts out being very amusing, with the witty, snarky narrative and dialogue we've all grown to love and associate with the Good Omens characters (well, with any Terry Pratchett character really). I've decided to quote from that section because it's what sets the initial mood to the story.
What it does end up being however, is one of the funniest, sappiest and most touching GO fics I've had the pleasure of reading to date. Admittedly, I still have some reservations with even the slightest touch of sap on my GO fics, but this didn't dither me from reading the rest of the story and loving it.
I have a very sensitive definition of sap, and most of the time I'd consider something sappy which most others wouldn't, so if it's the sap that you're worrying about, then don't listen to me and read on, because I promise you it's a marvelous fic. It made me laugh and it made me almost cry because it had me gush and made me happy and I will rec this fic to anyone who asks me for GO fic recs. |

| [fic] New World Symphony | Touga |
[Mar. 30th, 2004|10:52 pm] |
New World Symphony by seraphitus [ Utena | Touga | gen | G ]
The sound of the record's whirring, the strings of the violins stirring the strands of his hair one by one, and then yes, there were the flutes, fluttering above his head like windchimes in the wind that was not there.
I like Touga/Saionji, so the very slight hint of that made me happy. ^_^ Utena feels like such a detached and distant series to me now. It's been years since I saw it and almost as long since I read fic for it. I stumbled upon this one purely by chance after team7 recced the Roy drabble found on the same post.
The writer uses a lovely set of imagery, using both sight and sound to weave the atmosphere of the drabble. I loved the whimsical, almost dreamscape feeling that it gives you.
Yes, I'm working through my fic rec backlog. These are old fics I always meant to rec, but never got around to doing so. |

| [fic] Grey | Hastur/Ligur |
[Mar. 30th, 2004|10:26 pm] |
Grey by daegaer [ Good Omens | Hastur/Ligur | m/m | PG ]
"We all have grey eyes," Ligur said, giving up and letting his ruined wings droop down. "It's just not that easy to see anymore."
It's been proven time and time again that slashers can take any two characters and make slashing them believable. Sometimes, they can even make slashing two, filthy, uncouth demons not only possible, but undeniably sweet. Daegaer is yet, the only GO fic writer I've seen to write Hastur/Ligur and make me love the pairing. (I know I've recced another Hastur/Ligur fic by her before.)
Every demon in hell was once an angel in heaven. This is what the story of The Fall tells us. To those that have Fallen, to forget what it was like before the Fall is almost a blessing, for to remember is to know exactly what it is that you've lost.
The way the fic shows this is what completely won me over. How can a simple act like having your wings groomed mean so much? Everyone has experienced this at one time or another, where one act brings back memories and a torrent of emotions along with it. Even the Fallen have their moments of pain, and this fic shows that beautifully, without sacrificing characterization or writing style at all. |

| [fic] Aftermath | Gaara |
[Mar. 23rd, 2004|08:02 pm] |
Aftermath by adadochka [ Naruto | Gaara | gen | G ]
The children of Wind Country are well instructed by harshness and though they are hardened, they are brittle.
I haven't been reading much Naruto fiction as of late, but I at least still get to read some of the drabbles posted on the communities. This one is an absolute gem. One because it focuses on Gaara, the other because she writes it so beautifully. Gaara post-chuunin exam is something that's really intrigued me since the end of it. Like Neji, I think Gaara is one of the characters that are open to the most character development, in terms of the complete 180 that he could possibly undergo.
The relationship between Temari, Kankuro and Gaara is something that's always been a sort of fascination to me. They seem to care for each other, in that strange, almost non-existant way of theirs. We see very small glimpses of this which I could only hope was explored more, but wasn't.
The author takes that and creates this wonderful aftermath (no pun intended) scenario dealing with the fallout of the Gaara vs Naruto match and how it not only affects Gaara, but in turn how it affects those 'closest' to him as well - Temari in particular. It's not only the idea, but the execution which I love about it. Beautiful narrative, wonderful choice of description and the atmosphere and the pace she manages is extremely befitting of the characters.
She doesn't waste words at all. Every word, every sentence she puts in drives a point across and adds just a bit more detail to the bigger picture. It's a tightly woven piece and she manages to get so much in, in so little words. It's short, but definitely worth the read. If you even remotely like Gaara, then it's a must-read. |

If I'm ever going to get through my rec list backlog, I need to start reccing at least once every day, but we know that's never going to happen. ^_^ Anyhow, Rikkai and Hyotei dominates my rec list again. No surprise there.
I decided to stop linking to sample favorites halfway through this list, as you can note by the sudden disappearance of the ♠ links. Going through a site looking for a pic to link takes up time and I decided I didn't want to waste mine doing that. Every now and then I'll probably bring it back, but not for all the recs.
And please don't take my OshiGaku fangirl card away? I just happened to be surfing through a chain of OshiAto sites. ;_;

| [fic] Of Coffee and Sadism | Crowley/Aziraphale |
[Mar. 14th, 2004|08:03 am] |
Of Coffee and Sadism by Emerald Embers [ Good Omens | Crowley/Aziraphale | m/m | PG-12 ]
"Of course I bloody well remember," Crowley snapped. "Gabriel's obsession with breasts was pretty bloody memorable. Seemed to set a pattern for the whole human race, there."
Wouldn't you want to know how that entire conversation went. ;P This fic goes from light banter to a more semi-serious tone in a matter of minutes. It's a very smooth change in between though and I love Crowley in it, especially the little things he says between the lines. "I've not lowered myself to touch anyone like that since you. It was a one-off."
This fic works on a very interesting premise that the angels way back when in the beginning, actually had to 'test run' sex before the creation. It's a very interesting idea, and something which the writer pulls off rather well. The main story doesn't really cover this, although the conversation between Crowley and Aziraphale has mention of it.
What completely blew me away for this fic was the Down and Dirty bonus included at the end of the fic. It's short and beautifully written, and not only does it cover the premise she introduces in the main fic, but she also manages to interweave the faintest flickers of the start of the Fall into it.
I really can't rec this fic enough, because it's such a great idea and it's pulled off beautifully. Would of course, have loved to have seen a full blown fic of the time before the creation, but the little piece the writer has on it is just wonderful. |

I thought I'd start making art recs again as I had so many tabs open on my Opera browser (I use it solely for art site surfing) which I hadn't looked through yet. I've got tons of art sites I've never recced, so I'm going to try going through that backlog slowly. I've decided not to rec more than 15 sites per post, although I can decide to rec less, but I thought 15 per post would already be too much.

| [fic] Untitled | original |
[Dec. 28th, 2003|01:51 am] |
Untitled by Nora Jojo [ Original | m/m | PG-13 ]
The hard thing about writing drabbles is that you have to write something that tells a story and which can move your readers in exactly 100 words. I've found that this is usually easier to do in fanfic, where your readers already know all the characters and have backgrounds on all of them. They already have an attachment to the characters which you can rely on when writing your drabble. In an original work though, you're working on a completely clean slate, and so are your readers. There is no familiarity, no attachment. You either pack a punch by the end of your 100 words or your readers end up completely indifferent and uninterested.
The November challenge for the Sigil list, in the spirit of NaNoWriMo (get the joke? yea, I hope so) was to write a drabble. I think they made leeway so that it didn't have to be exactly 100 words, but Nora did hers in 100 words flat. And does she pack a punch in those 100 words. It's original yes, and very short, but it's a damned good drabble. This is what drabbles are supposed to be made of.
My rec is almost twice as long as what I'm reccing. And yes, I'm sorry, to be able to read the drabble you'll have to join the Sigil ML, but you can always join and read and then leave. Look around and then stay if you like what you see. ^^
P.S. For those unaware, Sigil II hit the bookstores last October. [ Amazon | Barnes & Noble ] |

| [fic] Touch Me Fall | Crowley/Aziraphale |
[Dec. 28th, 2003|01:11 am] |
Touch Me Fall by Carmilla ( lilka) [ Good Omens | Crowley/Aziraphale | m/m | R ]
"Why did you let me do this?"
"Because I wanted to."
There are very little Good Omens fic that are rated R/NC-17 which I'll actually like enough to rec. Mostly because somehow imagining Crowley and Aziraphale getting it on makes me go O_O, even if I find this pairing so cute it gives me cavities and Crowley would probably want to banish me to the 10th level of hell (you know, that special level they have for slashers who slash devils and angels).
Good Omens fics (the good ones) tend to have a certain level of snarky humor that we all know and love from the novel. This has none of that. It's short, and rather serious in tone, but beautiful in its execution that I didn't quite care about its lack of snarkiness and liked it all the same. Love between angels and demons isn't peaches and cream, but this fic manages to be sweet in its special kind of way without sacrficing the very very tall barrier separating this taboo from the rest. Writers tend to compensate this by making the fic dark in tone, something which I don't always enjoy, and I like how the author manages to keep it between the thin grey line separating the two. |

| [fic] Nakama | Zoro/Luffy |
[Dec. 19th, 2003|02:06 pm] |
Nakama by rini-ko [ One Piece | Zoro/Luffy | m/m | PG ]
He pats the back of my head with one hand, and I can feel his grin from the tip of his toes to the top of his head.
A Zoro-centered fic, where he muses about life before he met Luffy and after. It's not completely centered on Luffy, and has scenes with both Sanji and Vivi as well. A little introspective, a bit of angst, nothing too major that can scare the angst-wary away (as I tend to be scared away by bad angst). What I like about it the most is how the author writes Luffy. She's got down what I love about Luffy so much. His easy going nature, and his ability (despite the fact that he can be a really oblivious idiot at times) to understand the feelings of the people he's with. I think it's the reason why his crew is so drawn and is so deathly loyal to him, because somehow, Luffy understands and is able to comfort in his own special way. The writer shows that perfectly in this fic. And hey, the little Zoro/Luffy doesn't hurt at all. ^_~ |

| [fic] Port Town Moon | Luffy, Zoro |
[Dec. 16th, 2003|03:50 am] |
Port Town Moon by Luz Nocturnal [ One Piece | Luffy, Zoro | gen-slash | PG ]
"You know, they say that if you stare at the moon too long, you'll get sleepy."
It's actually very hard to slash a series like One Piece, at least in my opinion. Not because of the art, which I find rather appealing in its own special way, but because it's a series that's all about companionship and camaraderie and in putting your faith in the people you call friends.
I'm not as picky about my One Piece fiction as I am about other series', like Prince of Tennis, and the OP fandom doesn't have as many good fics to go around as the likes of TeniPuri. I do like this fic however, it's short, subtle and rather cute, and it has Luffy and Zoro in it, which is the only pairing I actually like in the series so far. Along with Ace/Luffy, but that's another matter entirely. |

| [fic] Sleeping Habits | Atobe, Jirou |
[Dec. 13th, 2003|02:51 am] |
Sleeping Habits by wishpaper [ Prince of Tennis | Atobe, Jirou | gen-slash | PG ]
Jiroh would sleep anywhere, it seemed. For any number of random intervals Atobe could wander back to his room to retrieve a paper or drop off a book, there seemed to be an equal number of places his roommate could curl up and doze off.
I mourn that AtoJi fics are now coming out (not a lot still) just when my interest on the pairing has waned somewhat. Nonetheless, I really like how this fic was played out. It's cute how Jirou ends up unconsciously taming Atobe so, without even meaning to. Clueless!Jirou whose only concern was to get some sleep when he felt like it. Of course one can argue he actually planned it all and that Atobe's been dupped. >D
Also, for the curious, the new gen-slash label I use for my fic recs are for fics that can be considered gen or slightly slashy, depending on how the reader chooses to see it. Normally, I would label such fics as gen, but on the (not so) rare occassion, I've decided to use the gen-slash label for it. |
